It is vital that back-up power generation assets perform when required, especially those assets that support critical infrastructure such as Hospitals and Data Centres. In the event of main power supply failure, it is very important that the diesel fuel powering the back-up is maintained to the highest standard as part of assuring equipment performance.

 

If Diesel Fuel sits in a tank for any length of time it is likely that water will also be present  due to condensation on the inside of tanks caused by ambient temperature fluctuations. Unless the water is drained regularly then an interface between water creates an environment for microbiological growth to occur and if unchecked, growth can block filters and engines when called into use. This potential is an age old problem which is further exposed by using modern diesel fuel if it has been specified with bio content. Bio diesel has been noted as being more susceptible to quality degradation.
